I DON'T EVEN KNOW HER NAME!

Monday night is still haunting me, as I heard the sirens and saw the flashing lights. While in the comfort of my house, I heard the sirens thinking I sure hope it's no one I know. I was getting ready to leave for church to help with a yard sale. When walking out in the driveway, I notice Jennifer standing in her yard; looking down the street. I went across to chat, when I noticed the lights flashing. The sirens were at the house of the little lady that lives on the corner. Jennifer and I stood watching, waiting, wondering what was going on in the little white house on the corner. At the same time, we both said...
OH MY GOODNESS....I don't even know here name.
OH MY GOODNESS....is she all alone?
OH MY GOODNESS...does she have any family?

I have lived in my house for 10 years and I do not even know my neighbors. What happened to the days when people knew their neighbors? What happened to the days when people had neighborhood cook-outs? Are those days gone forever?

Dear Lord...
Please give me the courage to come out of my box, out of my comfort zone. Please let me reach out to my neighbors and be more aware of the people in my community.
Amen

Unfortunately, those days are gone for good. I'd say invite the neighbors over for a cookout at the Hartung house. Throw a Halloween party for the neighbor kids--that would be a great icebreaker.

Or you can adopt an elderly neighbor--I did and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I've learned alot about myself and life in general from Betty.

Start a mission group with your church--use your talents to get your neighbors involved. I have several neighbors that leave bags of baby items, toys and yarn at my gate for my charity.

God gave me the strength and courage to start a mission group, and He will give you the same. Drop me an email if you'd like to chat about it.

Nice Post, Judi - I am feeling that same way! It is so hard to Open Up and let other people into my own little "safe" world, even though I know I need to!
